The water used comes from the Ringorm Burn water source. In the 1960s, the Single Malt Whisky initially appeared only in the famous Speyside Region. Starting in 1980, it was sold within the United Kingdom. Production involves two mash tuns and over 20 fermentation vessels. Distillation occurs in multiple wash stills and spirit stills. The Macallan is part of the Famous Grouse Blend. In 1999, the distillery was acquired by the Edrington Group.
