Das verwendete Wasser stammt aus der Ringorm Burn Wasserquelle. In den 60er Jahren erschien der Single Malt Whisky zunächst nur in der berühmten Speyside Region. Ab dem Jahr 1980 wurde er innerhalb von Grossbritannien verkauft. Zwei Maischbottiche und über 20 Gärbottiche ermöglichen die Produktion. Destilliert wird in mehreren Wash Stills und Spirit Stills. The Macallan gehört zum Famous Grouse Blend. Im Jahr 1999 wurde die Brennerei von der Edrington Group gekauft.
