The family business was established in 1908 when Don José Varela opened the first sugar mill in the recently founded Republic of Panama in the town of Pesé.
Several years later, the family began producing rum from sugarcane, expanding the operation to include a distillery.
To this day, Ron Abuelo is still made 100% from Virgin Sugar Cane Honey.
The remarkable Panama Rum is now produced in the third generation of the family business, whose team passionately dedicates itself to the craft.
