Founder Tian-Tsai Lee, the president of the Taiwanese food conglomerate King Car Group, realized his dream of having his own whisky distillery and made Taiwanese history with the pioneering distillate in the spring of 2006. The first Kavalan Single Malt Whisky was ready to hit the market in 2008 and quickly gained international acclaim, competing against Scottish and Irish counterparts. In 2015, it was awarded the title of "Whisky of the Year," and the product range expanded rapidly to include single cask releases. Following an expansion of the distillery in record time, Kavalan now houses 20 stills.
