Rick Wasmund founded the Copper Fox Distillery in January 2005 in Sperryville, Virginia. In 2015, a second distillery was added in Williamsburg.
Locally grown barley undergoes the traditional malting process, and in the drying kiln, it is flavored with the smoke of native fruitwoods instead of peat.
Maturation takes place in former bourbon barrels along with hand-cut fruitwood chips, making Copper Fox the only distillery that ages its whiskey with roasted applewood.
To achieve a rich and complex flavor profile, the whiskey deliberately undergoes no cold filtration.
