Outside of Japan, Akkeshi is among the relatively lesser-known spirits brands. Since 2013, the distillery has been an active production site on the northern Japanese peninsula of Hokkaido.

The well-equipped facilities feature a mash tun and two copper stills where the aromatic whisky is distilled. In the production process, the producers employ traditionally Scottish methods. Maturing in the climate of Hokkaido imparts unique flavor profiles to Akkeshi's whiskies. The aromatic varieties also undergo their maturation period in barrels made of Japanese oak. The brand releases blended whiskies, single malts, or limited single cask bottlings. Additionally, it offers numerous special editions.
